Ideas and Suggestions:

Children in the Junior Kindergarten age range very naturally learn by exploring, observing, asking questions, playing and experimenting. They use their senses to find out about the world. In fact, the word “kindergarten” came from a German term meaning “child’s garden”.

In past times and in fact, in many cultures of the present, children’s learning at this age happened/s mostly in a family or community environment and developed/s through this exploring, questioning, discussing, experimenting, etc. In keeping with this spirit, the ideas and suggestions for junior kindergarten are full of play, discovery and read-aloud opportunities for parent and child.

Don’t forget to check out the “Enthusiastically Recommended Read-Alouds and Resources List” at the end. It is full of ideas that can be borrowed from the library, purchased at local bookstores or found online.

Items with a price can typically be ordered through us. Items without a price are suggestions that can often be found on the internet, in libraries or in bookstores / online stores.

  • Discovery Toys and Usborne Books at Home are direct sales companies.Their products change periodically and so the ideas and suggestions for their products will be updated from time to time.
